As the Zillertal Alps are a treasure trove of hiking tours and stunning views, it can sometimes be hard to know where to begin! To help you decide, here’s our hiking tip for June.

The circular hike starts at the mountain station of Penkenbahn cable car. It will take you around two hours to follow the hiking trails and rocky paths over a total of 4.5 kilometres through the stunningly beautiful natural scenery above Mayrhofen. Penken is Mayrhofen’s local mountain and can be easily reached from our accommodation in Mayrhofen.

This hike is suitable for both young and not-so-young hiking fans and will delight the entire family. You’ll get the best view of Zillertal from the ridge, where (eyesight and weather permitting!) you can see as far as Stillup Reservoir. The highest point of the hike is the Penkenjoch pass at some 2,000m above sea level, where you can rest your legs and enjoy a bite to eat at Penkenjochhaus, Granatalm, and Penkentenne mountain restaurant.
