Enjoy the authentic traditions of your holiday destination!
Did you know that Austria’s largest spring and traditional costume festival – the “Gauder Fest” – was recognised as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO? It takes place every year on the first weekend of May in the nearby municipality of Zell am Ziller. The “Gauder Fest” probably dates back to the 16th century, during the reign of Emperor Maximilian I. The name Gauder refers to the property where the festival was held until after the Second World War. The festival is opened with the traditional beer tapping by the Tyrolean president and the cheerful and satirical Gambrinus speech. On Saturday, the mountain goat show takes place and Miss and Mister Gauder are elected. The highlight of this event is the parade on Gauder Sunday with traditional costumes and music groups, historic carriages, festive floats, and horse- and oxen-drawn carts. If you want to get a fantastic insight into authentic Tyrolean traditions, you should absolutely participate in the “Gauder Fest”. Our hotel for summer skiing in Europe is the perfect accommodation for this event.
